Maltitol is basically 4OαglucopyranosylDsorbitol which produced commercially under the trade names such as maltisweet, lesys and sweetpearl. It is half as caloric, does not promote tooth decay that is why it is used to replace table sugar. Furthermore, it carries only 75–90% of the sweetness of sucrose.
